Fig 3. Brut Vol. 1 Campaign; Photography by Lillie Thompson, Art Direction by SGH
Brut is a custom, artisan-made side table crafted from hand-forged iron. Named after the French word for raw, the piece celebrates the expressive qualities of its material. Its surface is purposefully hammered by hand, creating a textured, imperfect finish that gives each table a distinct character. No two are exactly the same.At once sculptural and enduring, Brut explores the tension between refinement and rawness, permanence and gesture. Its restrained form draws inspiration from the material honesty of Brutalist architecture, the forged traditions of early twentieth-century French ironwork, and the elongated, poetic sensibility of Giacometti. Subtle references to sacred and Gothic architecture are woven into its silhouette. With its visual gravitas and timeless simplicity, Brut is designed to anchor a space with quiet strength.
Produced in Bordeaux, France in close collaboration with local metalworkers, the piece is shaped through a tactile, hand-driven process that allows for nuance within constraint - where each gesture is controlled, yet never entirely predictable. The iron is worked incrementally, responding to each intervention, resulting in a surface that holds subtle variation and depth. This gives the table a quiet sense of movement, with light catching across its form to reveal shifting textures over time.
